That’s good to hear, but it wasn’t for lack of trying.

And I doubt that the State Department would openly acknowledge any damage.

The real bottom line is that for all the hype, there have been almost no real stories coming from those cables. The vast majority seem to show diplomats doing their jobs as best they can - or just confirm things that any reasonably aware observer of international relations already knew.

I beg to differ.

I think that CBS News article makes my point, actually, but I guess you think those stories are more important than I do. Almost none of them broke through to any large scale media coverage.

In a way, I think that’s been a pity. Like that India torture story, I would have liked to see that get more traction. But maybe that was to be expected from the WikiLeaks way of disseminating the information: a lot of material dumped in a short amount of time will not neccessarily lead to a lot of stories with equally big coverage get to the front of the news. It was also a pity, in my opinion, how much of the coverage was concerned with WikiLeaks (and then the coverage of the coverage and so on) and not with the contents of the cables.

re: #4 000G

Material simply dumped will never lead to any stories. Stories need to be written, narratives need to be created.

That is what Wikileaks fails at, and why its outcomes are more negative than positive.

I think you don’t have a correct idea about how WikiLeaks collaborated with the established media in their publication process lately: [Link: www.businessweek.com…]
